Cast of UndercoversAfter two episodes, Undercovers is quickly moving up my list of favorite network series.  No, it’s not especially deep and often it’s marginally ridiculous.  Who cares?  The cast is great and the show is a hell of a lot of fun.

Let’s start by getting this out of the way first.  Yes, Undercovers is one of the very few series in television history featuring an African-American lead (or leads).  Yay.  Whoopee.  Hazzaah.

Don’t care.  If I like the characters and/or the actors portraying the characters, I really don’t give a shit what flavor they are.  So … moving on.

You could not ask for a more attractive cast.  Even Gerald McRaney is looking good.  But the two leads are nothing short of jaw-droppingly attractive.  Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a stunner.  She plays the wife half of this husband and wife spy team, Samantha Bloom.  Her specialty … sexpionage.  No kidding on that.  The husband side of the team, Steven Bloom, is played by Boris Kodjoe.  Look up eye-candy in the dictionary and you’ll probably find his picture.  Kodjoe has appeared on People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful at least once.

J.J. Abrams is credited as the co-creator/executive producer, so you can’t go wrong there.  The general tone is a lot more Star Trek/Alias and less Lost/Fringe.   In other words, you can jump in at any time and without finding yourself in the deep end where everything is way, way over your head.  The show would be perfect paired with Chuck, also on NBC.

Basically what you have with Undercovers is a lot of action, plenty of firepower, and tons of sexy, all mixed up and baked into a hot, tasty cake of coolness.  Take a bite.  Yummy.

Undercovers airs Wednesdays on NBC at 8/7c

It’s been a while since the Nets went all out like this, scheduling a full week of almost nothing but premieres, throwing nearly every new show into the fight and going for broke.  It could get bloody, people.

Starting Monday, all four of the big dogs (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC) will open up on the new fall season with all guns a’ blazin’.  Nothing is getting held back.  Oh sure, there will be a straggler here and there–No Ordinary Family, for example–but those appear to be mostly because there just isn’t any room to get them on the air just yet.  NBC is holding a couple of shows out, possibly waiting for the dust to settle.  But it’s NBC, so who really knows.

It promises to be a busy, busy week fellow Hellraisers.  Though my DVR might go nuclear at any given moment, I’ll do my best to keep up …

If you don’t know what the initials stand for, you should probably enjoy this picture a moment then just move on before someone gets hurt.Jeanine Mason

This lovely young woman is Jeanine Mason, “America’s Favorite Dancer” for 2009.  And seriously, what’s not to like?

I somehow watched almost the entire season of So You Think You Can Dance.  I’m not sure when or how I got sucked in, but it started because my wife simply loves the show.  Never misses it.  In fact, she will absolutely chew me out if I somehow fail to instruct the TiVo properly and it doesn’t get correctly recorded.

Few shows on TV dish out more hysterical hyperbole than SYTYCD.  Seriously, people, it’s not a cure for cancer … it’s a dance about breast cancer.  And we wouldn’t really know that if someone didn’t tell us first.  I’ll admit that I can admire the insane creativity of some of the choreographers.  Even the ones I don’t get are still entertaining enough.  But the crying and the screaming by the judges?  That get’s old.  It really does.

But Cat Deeley is a long stemmed rose of a host … all legs and that tingle inspiring accent.  Plus I think she is just too damn sweet.  The dancers themselves, once you cut away the excess, are often quite stunning.  The athletic moves and revealing costumes can be nothing short of jaw-dropping.

Then there’s Jeanine.  I have no doubt she deserved to win this year and, were I the sort of guy who did that sort of thing, she would have had my vote.  She is not only stunningly attractive, but she is beautifully authentic as well.

Way to go, Jeanine.  Congrats.

And Cat, I’ll see you this fall for season six.

So You Think You Can Dance returns to Fox September 9.
